Our Chardonnay vines on the Estate are now more than 20 years old, and their strength of character is becoming more and more apparent each vintage. First planted in 1992, these are among the oldest such vines in the new world and their low yields and early ripening ability have been a perfect match for our climate & soils.
Produced from some of the oldest Dijon clones on our Estate, the Chardonnay is hand-picked, hand-sorted and then pressed whole cluster. The juice was fermented in 100% French Oak barrels to create a round, rich texture. After 11 months in barrel, Véronique selected her favorite barrels, those that were distinct and delicious. The Edition Limitée Chardonnay has a rich texture and great length on the palate. Beautiful and compelling, this cuvée possesses all of the Drouhin hallmarks - elegant and balanced, all with great finesse.
This was an exciting growing season and we're thrilled with how delicious the wines already are. In contrast to the more recent cool vintages, 2012 delivered gorgeous, ripe fruit, with wonderfully intense flavors. Ideal growing conditions gave us exceptional fruit, and the chance to create an Edition Limitée. It will be a joy to see what the years ahead bring.
A complex, floral nose of acacia and lemon verbena gives way to aromas of marzipan, spice, and vanilla custard. Often we find citrus fruit in the bouquet of our Chardonnay, but this is more reminiscent of orange and lime blossom. Intense and precise, our 2012 Edition Limitée is quite lively on the palate, with a sublime, rich texture. It is round, but not heavy. The bright minerality and focused stone fruit flavors give the wine light and air. The aroma, palate and long finish are in complete harmony. Savor now and through 2020.
