Our Chardonnay vines on the Estate are now more than 20 years old, and their strength of character is becoming more and more apparent each vintage. First planted in 1992, these are among the oldest such vines in the new world and their low yields and early ripening ability have been a perfect match for our climate and soils.
Produced from some of the oldest Dijon clones on our Estate, the Chardonnay is hand-picked, hand-sorted and then pressed whole cluster. The juice was fermented in 100% French Oak barrels to create a round, rich texture. After 11 months in barrel, Véronique selected her favorite barrels, those that were distinct and delicious. The Edition Limitée Chardonnay has a rich texture and great length on the palate. Beautiful and compelling, this cuvée possesses all of the Drouhin hallmarks - elegant and balanced, all with great finesse.
The warm, long growing season of 2015 brought us a second straight harvest of exceptional quality. Looking back, a warmer than average winter led to an early budbreak and nearly six months of charmed growing conditions. Just before harvest, the vineyards were able to enjoy some needed rain, but the skies were largely clear. Starting on September 9, as temperatures cooled slightly, we picked for nearly three weeks, bringing in exceptionally pristine, healthy fruit. Our 2015 Edition Limitée is an exciting focal point for the sensational 2015 vintage.
Expressive and complex, our 2015 Edition Limitée Chardonnay offers an unrestrained bouqet of white peach, honeycomb, pecans and begonia. The core of flavors are both spicy and floral, with bright, focused fruit and long finishing notes of lychee and citrus meringue. Above all elegant, this cuvée will benefit from decanting now, or six to eight years in the cellar.
