Our Estate vineyard is divided into 32 blocks which are all harvested by hand into 25 pound capacity bins, tank fermented and barrel aged one year individually. The wines that will ultimately become Laurene reveal themselves in the course of tastings over the year. After one year, the wines are blended and rest for four months, before being bottled in January of 2002 and aged for another 19 to 20 months before release.
Each vintage the Laurène bottling captures the best the year has to offer. A superb, warm and dry year in the Dundee Hills, the 2000 vintage allowed us to harvest grapes from our estate vineyard under ideal conditions. Each vineyard block was picked at its peak of flavor maturity and ripeness, leading to some of the most elegant and well-balanced wines we’ve produced to date. The third of five excellent vintages in a row, 2000 gave us wines of intense flavors and great balance, hallmarked by ripe fruits, velvety textures, and exceptional length.
There is great harmony in the 2000 Laurène, a mélange of red and black fruits wrapped up in a silky texture and a long, elegant finish. One of my personal favorites, perhaps it will be ultimately as lovely as the ’93 vintage. Youthful and vibrant now, this wine should mature to its fullest complexity from 2007-2010+. 1,900 cases bottled in January 2002.
