Our Pinot Noir is handpicked into 25-pound totes, then hand sorted and de-stemmed at our four level gravity flow winery. Fermentations are long and careful and by November, all of our Pinot was safely in barrel. Our barrels are custom made in Burgundy, using oak from France's best forests, allowing the character of the soil and vintage to show through.
2013 will be remembered as a year that rewarded experience and patience. A relatively normal growing season moved into a long period of warm, dry weather before harvest. Picking began under clear skies, which moved through a brief period of intense storms, and then returned to calm, dry conditions. As always, the strength of our vineyards gave us the ability to wait for optimal picking conditions. Throughout elevage, the wines developed complexity and a distinctive, cool climate personality, allowing us to blend this refined and delicious cuvée.
Our 2013 Dundee Hills cuvée is classically balanced, elegant, focused, and very clearly represents the terroir of our Estate. The color is a beautiful mix of garnet and ruby. Aromatically dynamic, floral notes with bright red fruit and spice fill the bouquet and palate. It is a mix of roses and violets with red hills earth, white pepper, red currant, cassis, light vanilla, pomegranate and warm cherry pie. On the palate, the texture is layered and complex, and the finish is quite long with well integrated tannins that will round in time. Our 2013 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir is young, but very pleasing now, and will only improve with time and patience. Enjoy today, and through the next five to eight years.”
