The arrival of Spring brings with it much excitement. In the vineyards we begin another growing season, and at the winery we celebrate the success of the last vintage with our release of a new Rosé. Made entirely from our Dundee Hills Estate Pinot Noir, the Edition Rosé is a favorite spring and summer wine for all of us at the winery, and for many of our best customers.
Our Estate Pinot Noir is handpicked in the early morning hours. These clusters are hand-sorted, destemmed and moved via gravity into tank. After one hour of contact, the ideal color is reached and we saignée some of the juice from our favorite tanks. Fermentation starts naturally, and at a cooler temperature, allowing the aromatics and fruit flavors to develop.
We're still in awe of the 2014 harvest, an intense, long, and very promising finish to what was an extraordinary year in the vineyards. We saw bud break in mid-April, a warmer than average spring led into an even, dry and often hot summer. Harvest began in mid-September under clear skies, which continued for a remarkable four straight weeks. Given the strong yields, it's miraculous that all of the fruit was virtually picture perfect. Looking back, it seems like the perfect marriage of hard work and very good luck, two of a farmer's best friends.
Fresh and floral, our 2014 Edition Rose beautifully represents the vintage's superb growing conditions. The wine is bright and layered, with notes of tangerine, lemon zest, nectarine, and an almost tropical finish on the nose. The wine is lively with flavors of strawberry, juicy orange, cherry pie, apricot, and a hint of rose. Our 2014 Edition Rose will be a perfect complement to the fresh flavors of spring and summer that lie straight ahead. Santé!
