Understanding a vineyard takes time, patience and experience. Qualities such as nuance, potential and character - these are not things easily or immediately learned about an estate, and Véronique Drouhin tends to be extra careful about these decisions. In contrast to our barrel cuvées, our Edition Limitée Pinot Noir is an 'estate selection', a chance to highlight individual vineyard blocks that have something to say in a given vintage.
By any measure, 2012 is an extraordinary vintage. After the cool, late 2010 and 2011 harvests, nobody knew what to expect in 2012, and certainly, we could not have predicted such a spectacular growing season. Harvest began on October 3 under clear skies, and finished 15 days later. Day after day, we were amazed by the uniformly exceptional quality of fruit. An experience to remember!
Our 2012 Edition Limitée Pinot Noir is a beautiful, concentrated ruby color. The seductive nose is dominated by aromas of cassis, blueberry, pomegranate, and spice, eventually evolving towards leather. Deep, juicy and intense, the texture is plush and rich with well-integrated tannins and ample layers of delicious, pretty, ripe fruit. Elegant and balanced with excellent length, this cuvée could easily be cellared for ten years or more.
