Understanding a vineyard takes time, patience and experience. Qualities such as nuance, potential and character - these are not things easily or immediately learned about an estate, and Véronique Drouhin tends to be extra careful about these decisions. In contrast to our barrel cuvées, this is an 'estate selection', a chance to highlight individual vineyard blocks that have something to say in a given vintage. Our 2014 Edition Limitée Pinot Noir demonstrates winemaker Véronique Drouhin's full command of the vineyard, drawing from two blocks that she felt were destined for each other.
In describing the vintage character, words like beautiful and exuberant come to mind. Not shy, but balanced and energetic, these are wines that will be delicious young and will certainly age very well. We saw bud break in mid-April, a warmer than average spring led into an even, dry and often hot summer. Harvest began in mid-September under clear skies, which continued for a remarkable four straight weeks. In general, the fruit was ripe, exceptionally clean, and abundant.
Beautiful and ruby-red in color our 2014 Edition Limitée Pinot Noir expresses aromatic depth with notes of violet, cola, red fruit, smoke, and delicate flowers. The texture is elegant, with excellent weight, finely integrated tannins and serious gras. There is a hint of spice on the palate, with beautiful subtlety and a long, persistent finish. Juicy and plush now, this is a delicious example of what I look for in our Dundee Hills Estate. Decant now, or hold in your cellar for 8-10 years.
